Mement and OmniFocus

OmniFocus offers project availability rules, review intervals, and configurable perspectives. Mement combines optional GTD with its Task, List, Project, and Area hierarchy, Habits, Sessions, and Big View. Compare the decisions each helps you make as your plans change.

Test how a project exposes its next actions

OmniFocus projects can be parallel, sequential, or single-action lists. Those types affect which actions are available. Mement organizes Tasks and Lists inside Projects and Areas, with explicit GTD statuses when enabled. Use a small project with one action that depends on another. Inspect which actions each app presents and how you update the plan after finishing the first step.

Run a project review in each app

OmniFocus Review shows projects due for review and lets you set their review intervals and mark them reviewed. Mement’s GTD flow separates clarifying Inbox records from reviewing existing plans. Its review includes explicit Project and Area acknowledgement and can be paused and resumed in the same context. Try a waiting commitment and a stalled project, then check whether your next review is easy to continue.

Check the dates behind the daily view

OmniFocus Forecast brings dated actions and calendar events into a planning view, and its date controls include due and defer dates. Mement dates and reminders remain independent of GTD status. A Task can have a day, times, or both, with a separate recurrence rule. Test a bill due on Friday and an undated next action, then inspect what appears today and which alerts you configured.

Compare perspectives with Smart and Spaces

OmniFocus Pro custom perspectives select and arrange actions using rules. Mement’s Smart filters work inside Lists, Projects, Areas, and Spaces, where automatic matches can coexist with manual selections. For a Work context, try a filter across several Projects and deliberately keep one extra Task included. A Mement Space can also hide or show Habits without deleting their history.

Decide how to record practice and time

A finished project action, a weekly reading goal, and time spent working answer different questions. In Mement, Habits record check-ins or measured amounts against a goal, and Sessions record active timer time. For a Duration Habit, a Session can suggest minutes for the progress entry you confirm. Use this with a real routine to decide whether that separate history is useful alongside your action lists.

Choose after testing a complete review cycle

Keep your existing system available and recreate one small project for the comparison. Capture a new action, change a date, review the project, and return to it after a few days. In Mement, use Big View to inspect its contents and a Space to narrow the working context. If OmniFocus availability rules or custom perspectives are central to your process, verify those needs in the trial before moving more plans.
