Mement · Smart lists, projects and areas

Gather related plans with saved filters.

Make an existing list, project or area Smart to bring matching items into its contents automatically. For example, keep unfinished high-priority tasks together or collect work items tagged for your next review. The same saved item can appear through a filter and remain in its original structure.

Smart filters are free. The Linked selection picker for managing manual links requires Mement Pro.

Add Smart filters to a container.

Create or edit a list, project or area, open Smart and choose Edit. Select the kinds of items to include, add the filters you need, then tap Done and save the container. You can change its rules later without recreating the container. It keeps its own name, icon, notes and place in the hierarchy.

Choose the items and conditions.

A list can include tasks. A project can include tasks and lists; an area can also include projects. Choose at least one supported type. The filter editor has Date, Priority, completion Status, Tags, Location and GTD Status. Date offers Today, Tomorrow, Weekend and a custom range. Location matches a saved place name. Tags can be included or excluded.

Use All for a precise combination.

All requires every active filter group to match. With Priority set to High and Tags including Work, an item must satisfy both. Any accepts an item that matches either group, so it produces a broader set. Selecting several priorities or GTD statuses accepts any selected value within that group. Included tags accept any selected tag; excluded tags reject items carrying them.

Keep GTD status separate from completion.

GTD Status filters read the status you assigned: Inbox, Next Actions, Scheduled, Waiting For or Someday. Use Include or Exclude for your selection. A task can be a Next Action and still be unfinished, so combine GTD Status with completion Status when both matter. Enable GTD to add a new GTD filter; turning it off later preserves an existing saved rule.

Keep items you linked deliberately.

The contents combine automatic matches with manual links. An item linked manually can remain even when it fails every filter. If it also matches automatically, it appears once. Linked shows manual selections only, so an automatic result can be visible in the container while unselected in that picker. Removing a manual link leaves the automatic match effective.

Change the view without losing the plan.

Changing an item’s tags, priority or status can make it enter or leave the container when its contents next refresh. Removing the Smart configuration stops automatic matching and keeps manual links. Smart containers stay in the ordinary Lists, Projects and Areas sections, and Big View uses their combined contents. Use a Space when you want to narrow several parts of the workspace together.
