Try it in Mement
- Add a Task with a concrete verb and the detail you are likely to forget.
- Review recognized dates, times, tags and priorities before saving.
- Use a supported Siri or Shortcuts creation action when speaking is easier, then check the saved record.
Capture does not need an elaborate structure
“Ask Alex which document the office needs” is usable without a Project, a deadline and three tags. Put supporting context in notes. Assign a date only when it means something.
Parsing and generation do different jobs
Ordinary title parsing works without a generative model. Supported AI can suggest splitting several commitments into Tasks; this is not a promise to break every complex task into a complete plan. Review suggestions before confirming.
How it works in Mement
Turn a title into a clearly organized record
See how one line becomes several fields
For an English-language example, enter “Send the quote tomorrow 10pm #work !high” in a Task title. The supported date and time phrase, work tag, and high-priority marker can appear as suggestions. After applying them, “Send the quote” remains the action name while the recognized information fills the relevant controls.
You can apply only the details you want. Check the actual date and time shown in the editor before saving, especially with relative wording such as tomorrow. You can also set every field directly without putting markers in the title.
Title recognition is available in Task, List, Project, and Area editors for the fields those records support. Tag markers accept Unicode letters and numbers, underscores, and hyphens. Unrecognized text stays in the title so you can edit it yourself.
Use additional AI suggestions when available
On a compatible device, Apple Intelligence can help interpret less explicit wording when ordinary title recognition finds no supported markers. It can suggest dates, priorities, or a split when one title contains several distinct actions. Availability depends on the device, system, language, and AI settings.
For example, a sentence containing several separate errands may produce a proposed Task split. Open the review, adjust each action, and confirm the Tasks you want. A suggestion is an opportunity to edit the result before saving.
You can control AI Task Parsing in Settings → General → AI Settings. The standard on-device title parser remains available when that AI option is disabled. AI assistance adds another input path; the normal editor remains available throughout.
Choose the record you actually need
Use a Task for one action, a List for related Tasks, a Project for a result with several steps, or an Area for an ongoing responsibility. The title helps capture details; it does not decide your entire structure for you. Parent and Space can be selected in the editor when you want that context.
Habit creation has its own suggestions for supported Habit details, such as a start date, icon, or rhythm. A Habit uses its tracking goal and schedule instead of Task priorities and tags. Apply a proposed rhythm when it matches the Habit you want to create.
If you prefer speaking, use the system keyboard’s dictation in the title field. Review recognized names, dates, and other details just as you would after typing.
Tasks, Lists, Projects, Areas and Habits support files, photos and links. In item editors, Attach becomes Attached with previews; removal sits beside each row. Location is below the materials, with a small map and an optional full-screen view. Open materials from the editor or the record’s details. In “Attach”, tap “Arrive” or “Leave” in the location reminder title to choose when to be notified. “Arrive” is selected by default. Save keeps that choice; notification and location permissions still apply.
Build useful Mement shortcuts
Start with the action you want to repeat
The action catalog covers more than adding Tasks. You can create and update Tasks, Lists, Projects, and Areas; complete, reopen, delete, or restore those records; and complete unfinished Tasks inside a selected List, Project, or Area. Creation and editing actions expose different parameters, so inspect the one you plan to use.
GTD actions open Workflow or Review and find or set statuses for Tasks, Lists, Projects, and Areas. For Habits, actions include creation, editing, logging progress, skipping an eligible day, lifecycle changes, and completing or reopening checklist actions. Spaces have create, update, activate, delete, and restore actions. Session actions start a Task or Habit Session and control the current Session. Navigation actions open records, Today, search, Analytics, Nearby, and Big View.
Use batch completion deliberately. “Complete Tasks In Project” acts on the project’s unfinished Tasks; it is a different action from completing the Project itself. Test with a small example before putting such an action in an automation.
Choose the context that the shortcut should use
A shortcut that always captures work for the same project should name that parent. Some creation actions use the active Space when a Space is omitted. That can be convenient for a personal capture shortcut, but an explicit choice is clearer when you run the same shortcut in several contexts.
The in-app Smart editor provides the filter configuration. A shortcut that creates a List or Space does not automatically reproduce every Smart condition from another record. Add the Smart setup in Mement when your recipe needs it.
List generation actions can open a review or use an explicitly selected creation mode. Read that action’s options and check the resulting List. For a Session, another running Session needs to be resolved before the shortcut can start a replacement.
Open your work context
First save a Space called “Work” in Mement. In Shortcuts, add Activate Space and choose Work in its Space parameter. Follow it with Open Today if that is where you begin the day. Run the shortcut and check the active Space in Mement.
If you want to create a new Space, use Create Space instead. An empty parameter in Activate Space clears the active selection. Apple’s Focus List filter is a separate setting for a widget, so it can be configured alongside this shortcut when needed.
Read a Project or Area summary
Add Summarize Project, select “Prepare the presentation”, then pass its returned text to Apple’s Show Result action. The summary gives you a way to review the current supported project content. Compare it with your records when deciding the next action.
Summarize Area follows the same pattern with an Area parameter. These summaries require Pro, the relevant Mement AI setting, and an available on-device model. If the model is unavailable, use the project or area details directly while checking its requirements.
Record ten minutes of reading
For a reading Habit that tracks Duration, add Log Habit and choose the saved Habit. Set Value to 10 and optionally add the note “Evening reading”. Run it on an eligible day, then open the Habit history and check the ten-minute entry.
Use an explicit amount for a numeric recipe. When a value is omitted, the action can use the remaining target. For a checklist Habit, complete its actions first; checklist actions and the final progress entry are separate steps.
Start and control a Session
Add Start Session for a Task and choose its duration, or use the Habit Session action for a Habit. After running it, open the Session in Mement and confirm the linked record and timer. Pause, Resume, End, and Open Session work with the current synchronized Session.
Ending a Session records the timer outcome. Complete the linked Task or confirm Habit progress through the appropriate action when that is your intended result. This keeps a timer automation from accidentally standing in for a different action.
Find the rest of the catalog
The suggested Mement tiles show a selection of App Shortcuts. Use Add Action to find the other actions described here. A missing suggested tile does not mean its action is unavailable.
Siri recognition and suggestions depend on Apple’s device, system, and language support. If Siri gives an unexpected result, run the shortcut directly first. The newer Apple 27 Reminders assistant actions have their own Task-field mapping; they are a separate integration from the broader Mement action catalog.
A plan to adapt
