Try it in Mement

  1. Open the record and decide whether the work is finished, no longer relevant, or simply outside the view you want to use.
  2. Complete finished work. Before completing a List, Project, or Area, inspect the records inside it.
  3. Delete work you want to remove from active views. For a repeating Task, read whether the action affects one occurrence or the series.
  4. Use the available recent undo action immediately after an accidental completion or deletion.
  5. For an older deleted record, open Deleted, restore it, and inspect its contents and relationships.
  6. For a Habit break, choose Pause when you want to keep it available; check the retention period before using Archive.

Finish the right amount of work

Completed work remains available in the completed view. A Task marks one action done. Completing a List, Project, or Area also affects its children, so check the container before treating completion as a convenient way to hide it.

For example, a Project “Prepare the presentation” may contain “Build the slides” and “Rehearse the introduction”. Complete the first Task when the slides are ready. Complete the Project when its whole result is finished and the effect on its remaining children is intended.

If you only want a different set of work on screen, use a Space or the relevant filter. This changes what you see without using a completion or deletion action to organize the view.

Undo an accidental recent action

Use the supported undo gesture on the device or Command-Z on Mac. Mement keeps the most recent registered undo action, rather than a stack of every past edit. Act promptly and inspect the restored result.

For a container action, undo restores the affected child states associated with that action as well. If you have already performed other work, do not assume an older change is still the current undo action. Find the record in Completed or Deleted and use the appropriate recovery action instead.

Find and restore removed records

Tasks, Lists, Projects, and Areas can be restored from Deleted. A deleted container retains the information used to recover its hierarchy. After restoring a Project, open it and check the Lists and Tasks you expected to recover, including their parent relationships.

Before restoring or recreating a missing record, check whether it is completed, outside the active Space, or hidden by a filter. Search for a distinctive part of its title. A record that already exists should be opened and checked before you make another copy.

Removing a manual Linked relationship, changing a Smart filter, and deleting a Space each change a different part of the organization. They should not be treated as the same operation as deleting the records that appear through them.

The “Deleted” card on Home appears only when the current scope contains deleted items. In “Deleted”, search titles across Tasks, Lists, Projects and Areas. Open the ellipsis menu and choose “Select”, then use “Restore” or Delete at the bottom for the checked items. Restoring a container includes its deleted descendants; restoring a nested item also restores its deleted parents. Choose “Delete All Permanently” to remove the whole deleted inventory in the current scope, including results hidden by search, after confirmation.

Choose Pause or Archive for a Habit

Pause suits a break when you want to keep the Habit and its history. Archive has a 30-day retention window for the Habit definition and tracking history. Restore an archived Habit before that period expires if you want to use it again.

For example, pause a training Habit during a long trip if you expect to return to it. Use Archive when you intend to remove it, remembering the recovery deadline. These Habit rules do not define a retention period for every other record type.

When changing devices or resolving a sync problem, keep the newest correct copy available. iCloud synchronization, a shared card, an Analytics PDF, and a Passport are different features; none should be assumed to be a browsable archive of every previous workspace state.

Before you finish

  • The selected action matches my purpose: completion, removal, or a change of view.
  • I checked the effect on child records and repeating work.
  • Recovered records and any Habit archive deadline have been checked.
