Mement and Things
Things gives personal tasks a clear place in Today, Upcoming, Anytime, or Someday. Compare that daily workflow with Mement’s optional GTD statuses, Lists within Projects, and separate Habit and Session records.
Compare the meaning of a date
Things separates a start date, which controls when work appears, from a deadline, which says when it must be finished. Mement keeps its saved dates and reminder times independent of GTD status. Choosing Scheduled in GTD does not fill in a date. Try a report you want to begin before it is due, and check how each app represents the decisions you need to make.
Build one project with several parts
Things uses projects and areas, with headings to group project to-dos and tags to find related work. Mement adds Lists that are records with their own details and can sit inside a Project. For a room renovation, try a shopping List alongside Tasks for measuring and booking a contractor. Use Linked to select work already captured, and inspect how Smart matches join those manual contents.
Try the review you want to repeat
Things encourages reviewing saved work in lists such as Someday and choosing what belongs in Today. Mement’s optional GTD Workflow has Inbox, Next Actions, Scheduled, Waiting For, and Someday. Clarify processes captured records; Review helps you revisit classified plans, including Projects and Areas. Try one review with a waiting commitment and a project that needs a next action, then check how easily you can return after an interruption.
Keep a recurring action and a Habit distinct
Things supports repeating to-dos on a fixed schedule or after completion. In Mement, repeated Tasks suit deliverables such as a weekly report, while Habits record practice or measured progress. For reading, you can accumulate minutes or pages toward a weekly goal. A Session can time the practice; you still confirm the Habit entry, and stopping a timer does not complete the linked work.
Check how sharing will work
Things states that it does not support shared editing of to-dos or lists. Mement can send a Task card in Messages and import supported received cards as the recipient’s own records. Later changes remain each person’s responsibility. If your household or team needs everyone editing one current list, include that requirement in your choice. For personal use across Apple devices, test synchronization with an actual saved change.
Use a familiar project for the trial
Recreate a small project manually before deciding how to move your wider system. Find its next action the following morning, change one date, and leave an unfinished action for later. In Mement, also try a Space that combines related plans and Big View to explore their hierarchy. Choose based on which workflow you can maintain, including the reviews and tracking you will actually use.
