Try it in Mement

  1. Search for a remembered word, note, tag, place or container name.
  2. Check the Active Space and ordinary results first.
  3. On a supported device, enter at least three characters and explicitly use Ask Mement for a summary of indexed plans.

Search is the broad retrieval tool

Typo-tolerant lexical results come first. Available semantic matches carry an AI badge; they do not replace or reorder those ordinary results.

Ask has a smaller evidence window

Ask uses at most eight local Spotlight records in the current Space, with an on-device model or deterministic fallback. It does not search the public web, inspect every record or change your plan. Ask is free, requires supported iOS, iPadOS or visionOS 26+ and the AI setting. Locked, protected and deleted records are excluded from indexing.

How it works in Mement

Find a record or ask Mement about your plans

Find by a remembered word or context

You do not need to remember the exact title. A note fragment, tag, place name, priority or related container name can help find a record. For example, search “estimate” for a Task about sending an estimate, or use the Project name when you remember where you planned the work. Search also tolerates some near-miss spelling.

Results update as you type. Direct wording matches appear first, and suitable queries can add results with related meaning. An AI match badge identifies these additional matches, whose wording may differ from the query. Open a record to check that it is the one you meant.

Search is also an entry point for work. Task rows offer their supported completion, Session and deletion actions. Eligible Lists, Projects and Areas can be opened, used for a Session or deleted through their available actions. Spaces open their own view. A result’s actions depend on its type and state; finding it does not change it.

Ask for a summary of available plans

Ask Mement answers from matching records already in the device’s Spotlight index. A question about a named Project or known item gives it a clearer context than a general question. For example, try asking about the preparation for your named trip, then inspect the relevant records in Search to check the details.

Where the on-device language model is available, it can summarize the retrieved records. If the model is unavailable or generation fails, Mement can show a local results summary without using that model. An empty local result gives a no-result answer. Ask does not browse the public web to fill gaps in your plans.

Choose Ask explicitly, wait for the result and use refresh or retry when offered. Changing the query starts a new context and cancels the previous request. The answer summarizes the records it retrieved; it should not be read as an exhaustive review of every item in your workspace.

Check availability and missing results

Ask appears on supported iOS, iPadOS and visionOS versions with the relevant AI setting enabled, after a query has at least three characters excluding surrounding spaces. If it is missing, check the platform and system version, the AI setting and the query length. Normal Search remains usable even when this answer action is unavailable.

Deleted items, biometric-locked items and records with Security notification enabled are excluded from the system index that Ask reads. A record can therefore be accessible inside Mement without being available to Ask or Spotlight. Open it normally and respect its protection rather than changing privacy settings just to obtain an answer.

If you remember an archived or completed record, inspect the appropriate in-app view as well. Searching and asking help you retrieve plans; AI List generation is the separate action for creating a new List and Tasks from an outcome you describe.
