Try it in Mement
- Open the List, Project, Area, or Space editor and choose Linked in Organise.
- Find existing records by browsing their type sections or entering a search.
- Select the rows you want to include. A selected row receives an outline; tap it again to remove the selection.
- Choose Done to return the selection to the editor, then Save the edited container or Space.
- Open the result and check its manual contents, taking any Smart matches into account.
Include work you have already captured
Suppose you created “Measure the space” and “Choose a lamp” as Tasks before making a reading-corner Project. Edit that Project, open Linked, find both Tasks, and select them. Confirm with Done, then save the Project. You have organized existing work without typing replacement Tasks.
The available types depend on what you are editing. A List includes Tasks. A Project includes Tasks and Lists. An Area includes Tasks, Lists, and Projects. A Space can select all four types to build a working context. A Task has no Linked control because it does not contain other records.
The picker searches eligible, non-deleted records across the workspace, even when a Space is active. This lets you bring existing work into a new context instead of having to switch Spaces before selecting it.
Finish the selection, then save the editor
Selecting a row changes its link selection. It does not open or complete the Task. Search can narrow the visible results while keeping earlier selections, including rows outside the current query. You can search for “lamp”, select the Task, then search for “measure” and keep both.
Done applies the whole selection to the editor you came from. Save in that editor persists the change. Cancel or dismiss the Linked picker to keep its previous selection instead. If you clear all selected rows and confirm, you clear those manual links when the editor is saved.
The Linked row summarizes manually selected record types and counts. Automatically matching Smart records do not increase that manual-selection summary until you select them explicitly.
Know which relationship you are editing
Parent or Add to answers “Where does this record belong?” Linked answers “What existing records should this container include?” Space assignment gives the current record a working context. Changing Linked does not silently rewrite the other controls.
Smart answers another question: “Which records should appear automatically when their fields match?” For example, a high-priority Task may appear in a Smart List without being selected in Linked. You can also select a Task manually so it stays included even when it does not match.
If a record appears through both routes, Mement shows it once. Removing its manual selection does not hide a record that still matches Smart. Check the filter when a record remains visible after unlinking it.
Before you finish
- You selected existing records of the types supported by the edited item.
- You confirmed the picker and saved the containing editor.
- If an unlinked record remains visible, you checked whether Smart includes it.
