Mement glossary
Look up the name you saw in Mement and understand how it is used. Record types offer different ways to organize work: a Task or List can stand on its own, while Projects and Areas add structure when useful.
- Task
- A concrete action you can mark complete. Add details, a date or a reminder when the action needs them.
- List
- A group of Tasks, usable on its own or within a Project or Area. It can combine Tasks selected manually with automatic Smart matches.
- Project
- A record for an outcome that takes several steps. It can hold Tasks directly, Lists, or both, and can stand on its own or belong to an Area.
- Area
- A record for an ongoing responsibility, such as home or work. It can group Tasks, Lists, and Projects when that grouping is useful.
- Linked
- The editor control for explicitly choosing the supported records included in a container or Space. Automatic Smart matches remain separate from this manual selection.
- Smart
- A saved filter capability of a List, Project, Area or Space. Matching records appear alongside manually linked records, without duplicate appearances of the same record.
- All
- A filter mode that requires every active condition to match. Manually linked records still remain included.
- Any
- A filter mode that requires at least one active condition to match. Manually linked records still remain included.
- Spaces
- A saved context that narrows participating Mement screens to manually selected and automatically matched records. Deleting a Space keeps the records it referenced.
- GTD Workflow
- An optional workflow for clarifying and reviewing Tasks, Lists, Projects and Areas. Each record has its own status, independently of its date and its children.
- Inbox
- The GTD status for a record whose meaning or next step still needs clarification. New supported records begin here.
- Next Actions
- The GTD status for work you have explicitly chosen as actionable. It can include records without a date.
- Scheduled
- A GTD status chosen explicitly for planned work. Setting this status does not create a date; setting a date does not select this status.
- Waiting For
- The GTD status for a record waiting for a person, delivery, reply or another external result.
- Someday
- The GTD status for an idea or commitment you have deliberately deferred for later consideration.
- Habit
- An activity whose completed practices, elapsed time or measured quantity you record over time. Its progress history is separate from completing Tasks.
- Goal period
- The day, week or month over which Habit progress counts toward its goal. This is separate from the chosen practice days.
- Habit schedule
- The days on which you plan to practise a Habit. The goal period separately determines how its progress is counted.
- Session
- A timer linked to a Task, List, Project, Area or Habit. It can measure elapsed time or count down from a chosen duration. Stopping a Session and completing the linked item are separate choices.
- Nearby
- A view of active Tasks with saved places. You choose the stop order before opening the route in Apple Maps; arrival does not complete a Task.
- Big View
- A visual view of the existing Task, List, Project and Area structure, displayed as spheres. Opening a sphere shows the related record.
- Digital Twin
- A local summary of recorded planning behaviour. Its five indicators describe different patterns. Optional Health inputs can affect the personalized result on the device where you enable them.
- Semantic search
- Search that can match the meaning of a request rather than requiring the exact words used in the saved record. Availability depends on the supported system and language.
- Ask Mement
- A way to ask about your plans using matching records from the local Spotlight index. When the on-device model is unavailable, Mement can return a local result summary.
